The esteemed Michelin Guide Rouge has released it’s rankings for the San Francisco area restaurants.  Crowning the constellation, alone with three stars, is The French Laundry (Read about my experience here, and see photos from my visit here.  You can also read about my experience at it’s three-star twin in NYC, Per Se, here.).  It’s li’l sis, Bouchon in Napa Valley, gets one star.

I was especially pleased to see Chef David Kinch and his staff at Manresa receive 2 stars – well deserved indeed!  (To see pictures from my meal there, click here.)

I was a little surprised not to see the much talked about ame in the St. Regis Hotel on the list of awardees.  My one meal there was wonderful, and I thought worthy of one star.  In fact, the management had told me that Michelin had come in to take photos of their food and requested recipes – signals that the restaurant would get a double-page spread in the guide (i.e. meaning they were to receive at least one star).  ame is one of the restaurants featured in the October 15, 2007 issue of Wine Spectator, now on stands.

I’m personally surprised to see that Gary Danko’s didn’t get more than one star.  I’m thrilled to see Cyrus get 2, but am terribly sad that I didn’t get to it the last time I was in Napa Valley.

Among the other Bay area starred restaurants I’ve visited: Chez Panisse (Read about my experience here, and see my meal here) and Ritz-Carlton Dining Room (View my meal here).

The publication of the San Francisco Michelin Guide brings my personal total of Michelin-starred eating experiences to 60 stars.
