I’m not one for sappy, greeting card holidays, but since it’s Valentine’s Day, and I’m behind on my photos of the week, for this thirty-second one, I give you a big, gooey, heart of darkness.

Why this woman was slathering chocolate couverture over what appears to be a large, wooden heart in the kitchen at the famous chocolatier, Bernachon, in Lyon, France, with a blow dryer in one hand, I still have no clue.  Was it for a window display?  Was it a special order item for a quirky lover with a strange sense of humor?  Was it for a presentation at Sirha, the gargantuan, international food trade show that coincided with the Bocuse d’Or and the World Pastry Cup?

Not me. There’s no such thing as too much chocolate. What intrigued me on the trip was the young apprentice, who is just on the edge of the photo. One doesn’t see that in the US today. If he keeps at it, he will likely be a great chocalatier some day.
