 Baby Swiss Chard and Lettuces
ulterior epicure.

The 2007 growing season is in full swing.  Thanks to a deluge of rainfall in the early monts, my garden is up and running.  This year, I’ve put in 10 variety of heirloom tomatoes: San Marzano, Cherokee Chocolate, Giant Green Zebras, Missouri Love Apple, Kellogg’s Breakfast, Paul Roberson, Cosentino Fiorentino, and German Johnson.  In addition to zucchini, yellow squash, snow peas, beets, mustard greens and, aubergines, and cucumbers, I’ve also added a new plant to my slowly expanding garden – okra.

Yet, amidst these adolescent-sized (and some, garishly adult-sized) garden plants, the baby chard and lettuces are the darlings of my garden right now. I look forward to a good harvest later in the year – if I can keep the deer and rabbits away.
