Drumroll… the James Beard Award Foundation has revealed this year’s nominees. To see the list of potential winners, click here.
Mostly, it’s a hit parade of the usual suspects. Not surprisingly, Per Se is nominated for “Best New Restaurant” and its chef-proprietor, Thomas Keller is nominated for “Best Restaurateur.” Steingarten is up for another writing award. Chicago chefs and restaurants dominated the Mid-West categories, and somewhite surprisingly, the “Outstanding Service” category (it’s that Mid-West niceness, what can you say?).
The winners will be announced on May 2 at a special dinner ceremony in New York City. Tickets are $307.50 for non-Foundation members. Sigh… anyone feeling charitable?
