So, my birthday is coming up in less than a month. To allay my anxieties, I have found pleasant distraction in materialism.Outside of all of the altruistic things that one is supposed to wish for, like world peace, end to world hunger, cure for Cancer, etc… I thought I’d share my top ten wish list for my birthday.* Since only two people (to my knowledge) know of my identity, I feel safe that this post will not come across as some pathetic solicitation for gifts. This list is in no particular order… really…

1). Williams Sonoma stainless steel Mandoline
2). Patrick O’Connell’s The Inn at Little Washington Cookbook **
3). “Are You Being Served” Series
1 & 2
4). Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl (to be released March 23, 2005) **
5). A subscription to
Gastronomica
6). First edition of
The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith **
(the link doesn’t take you to a first edition copy, I don’t even know where you’d begin to look).
7). A new pair of
Simple “New Original” Clogs in the “Gaucho Crazy Horse” color
8). A nice body massage package from any quality day spa.
9).
Shun 7” Hollow Ground Santoku Knife
10). Framed print of Jack Vettriano’sElegy For A Dead Admiral” **

* a). This is a my “fun list within reason” – I’ll ask for the all-inclusive 14-day vacation of Scandinavia nex year.
b). Make what you will of any indications of my gender/sexual-orientation that the items may suggest.
c). This list was not affected by my anonymity (ie. I’m not omitting anything just because it would “give me away”)

** Signed copies of any of these would be an added bonus.
